Wow - 1904 brings the first US Patent issued to
inventor Otto Langos, and it's no toy! He is a co-inventor to a railroad track switch
that allows track switching from a moving train. Before this invention, a train had to stop so a person could get
out and manually switch the track over by pulling a lever. This invention made railroad travel much faster, and more efficient.
We can only imagine what the story is behind this incredible achievement, at age 27 years
old. Also notice that he is not yet a US citizen, and is still a "subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary" as the patent
reads.

It marks the beginning of the Paper Buster toy era that would
last for 50 years!

Read the title area to learn that Otto earned money on this 1917 patent
by selling the rights to it, indicated by the words 'Assignor To'.
Also read the first paragraph to learn that he is now a citizen
of the United States.

Interestingly, Otto sold only 'three-fourths' of this 1920 invention, which gives
him rights to keep working with it. Nice move..

Again, this one is no toy. Read the first paragraph to see that this patent was used to make some of the first electric "Curling
Irons or other electric heat devices" as the patent reads. Who would have thought.

This MUSICAL TOY Patent is a reflection of Otto's first passion
and profession of teaching music in his homeland of Hungry.

The incredible significance of this patent is explained in the 1st and
2nd paragraph of the description.
In short, Otto invented the winding mechanism that allows toy cars to propel themselves
forward by giving them a few rolls backwards, and then letting them go.
It marks the beginning of the end for key wound
toys.
* The likes of this toy can still be purchased today in any toy
store, over 70 years later.
